Flood Plain - Moving on to another 1 change in the revised ordinance, McNear proposed that construction of new residences be permitted in Sperryville’s flood plain by special exception permit.
The provision for building in a flood plain would apply to that village only “because there’s going to be sewer there,” he added.
“I don’t think we should proceed on the absolute assurance that there’s going to be sewer there,” Miller responded. He also noted that the systems proposed by the village have been “nogrowth systems not intended to provide many hook-ups past those needed to serve existing residences.
“It’s just something you can consider,” McNear said, adding that flood plain building codes are so stringent, it may not be economically feasible to build there even if new construction is permitted.
