Rosson noted that the Rappahannock Fire and Rescue Association had initially asked for $14,568 in state funds with the county supervisors committing $3,642 as the local match for purchase of communications equipment. “The state couldn't find the entire amount we asked for but it’s still going to take $18,200 to do the job.” Rosson said.
(The board of supervisors agreed in September to provide a maximum of $5,000 for the local share of the grant application. That maximum plus the state funds falls SI ,610 short of the amount necessary.)
He added that the grant for equipment purchase has strings attached: the county will have to agree to staff a dispatch station 24 hours a day. The condition was included to ensure that the money awarded for purchase of communications equipment wouldn’t be “thrown
