With the Christmas-New Year holiday season a few days away and the long, cold winter settling in, motorists need to remember that proper tire maintenance can help insure maximum tire performance. During cold weather, tire air pressure can dro papproximately one pound for every 10 degree temperature decrease, advises the Virginia Department of Transportation Safety (VDTS).
“Correct tire inflation and ■ sufficient tread are essential at this time of year. They allow for maximum traction and braking, easy steering and cornering and a longer tire life,” said VDTS director John T. Hanna.
