application for funds available from the new community development block grant program. The Sperryville project could qualify for as much as $175,000. Only $264,475 is needed, however, to bring monthly user fees down to the $20 range that the WSA believes village residents can pay.
As of yet, the Water and Sewer Authority members know very little about the block grant program. On Monday, Dennis reported that Deimer. the engineer working on the Sperryville project, plans to attend workshops on the blocks grants scheduled by the state sometime in late February.
Regulations require that the public hearing on the proposed sewer system be advertised for 45 days With the date set for March 29, additional information on the blocks grants should be available by that time. Dennis said. At the very least, he added, the WSA will be able to give Sperryville residents some idea of what the possible range in users fees will be.
“From the standpoint of funding politics, we should get that hearing under our belt.’' he said, maintaining that fulfillment of the public hearing requirement will give the WSA a better shot at securing the additional community development block grant funds.
The Authority may have an answer on its block grant application bv late February.
