Preliminary figures released this week by the Virginia Game Commission indicate that the past season may set new records for deer harvest.
As of January 12. preliminary tabulations show the top six counties for game kills in Biologist Hal W. Meyers' district as Buckingham with 1.962 deer and 334 turkeys. Bedford with 1.662 deer. 217 turkeys and 17 bears. Pittsylvania with 1,385 deer, 147 turkeys and 11 bears and Prince Edward with 935 deer and 157 turkeys. In addition, there were 26 bears killed in Nelson County.
