When old man winter is beating down the door, it’s hard to think about what may happen on July 4.
But now is the time for residents of Washington and citizens throughout Rappahannock to begin planning for the town’s annual Independence Day Fair.
The Fourth of July celebrations centered around William Carrigan’s fireworks extravaganza offer Washington’s financially desperate fire and rescue company a wonderful opportunity to raise much needed revenue. It presents local civic clubs and organizations, crafts persons and business people with the same opportunity.
With the right kind of attractions and early publicity, Washington’s old fashioned country fair can attract hordes of suburbanites from the greater Washington area. Give the city people unique entertainment, good food and the chance to watch craft demonstrations and to buy quality crafts and they ’ll flock to the country to spend their money.
We re sure that Mr. Carrigan doesn’t wait until the middle of June to organize his fireworks display, the horse and hound shows, the games and the drill teams that have delighted audiences at Avon Hall
Now is the time for the rest of the participants to get cracking as well.
