Gene was less than enthusiastic in his endorsement but he did acknowledge that digitals keep extremely accurate time. He uses a digital watch himself to calibrate the clocks he's working on. checking daily to see if the old timers are running too fast or too slow.
"Old clocks that were made in the U.S. were not as accurate as those made 100 years ago in Europe and or those made today in this country." Gene noted.
"An American antique spring-driven eight-day clock will begin to lose time after about six days. Now that doesn't apply to the 'Regulators.' They were all weight driven. Some even had I pendulums of wood because it doesn't contract and expand like metal and won't interfere with the accuracy. ■Regulators' used to hang in every railway stations and in jewelry stores all around the country in the days before we had radios to announce the time," he said.
