Robb was sworn in Saturday as Virginia’s 64th governor, and pledged in his inaugural address that he will work toward strengthening the state's commitment to education and economic development.
Robb. a 42-year-old McLean attorney and son-inlaw of a former president, took the oath of office from Chief Justice Harry L. Carrico shortly after noon as thousands watched on a damp, chilly day outside the Capitol. >
His 20-minute speech not only focused on Virginia affairs but was directed at a national audience as well. The founding fathers of Virginia, he said, were also the founders of America. "What they gave to Virginia, we still preserve as the best of the original American spirit," he said.
