When Washington residents to go the courthouse to vote next Tuesday, they will be handed a ballot bearing the names of the present six couil members and mayor. No other town resident has qualified, although there will be an opportunity to write in a candidate. Mayor Newbill Miller said that the council does not perceive this possibility as a threat: “No, this is not a threat," he said. "We welcome write-in opposition from any candidate who wants to serve the town."
Miller, running for his third term as mayor of the town, briefly reviewed some of the accomplishments of the present council. In one of the busiest two-year terms in the history of the town, the present council has:
- Formulated the town’s first comprehensive plan;
- Established the first subdivision ordinance;
Revised the zoning regulations;
- Installed an excellent water source;
- Purchased through a trade a building to serve as the future Washington Ton Hall at no cost to the town.
