Taylor Updike, a retired carpenter, is another Washington native who has served on previous councils. He's only missed one meeting in the six years of his most recent term. “I’ve been interested in improving the town,” Updike said.
Town treasurer Bradford Fisher is seeking to retain the position that he's held for four years. Fisher, head chemist for the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission, has lived here eight years. He said that, although the job of treasurer is demanding, "It’s a necessary job and 1 feel qualified to help the community in this way.” Fisher is a member of the town’s volunteer fire department and rescue squad, a Rappahannock Chorus member, and a member of the choir at Trinity Episcopal Church.
Dorothy Hawkins is competing a 32-year stretch of service on the town council. She was born here, in the structure that now houses the museum. Hawkins has always been interested in beautifying the town and in providing conveniences for the elderly. "1 love this place," Hawkins said. “I guess we all do.”
Polls will be open Tuesday, May 4 from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the registrar’s office in the courthouse.
