Early Homes
“All homes that were built in those days were built, not for the scenery, but for convenience. They were built close to a spring. Now, when I say “close to a spring”, I mean the house was on a hill and the spring was at the bottom of the hill so you’d always have to climb down the hill and climb back up with a bucket of water. Everybody had spring houses and they kept the milk and butter and vegetables from one meal to the next there. You’d be surprised how cool and nice it did keep the milk and butter. After people started using wells, the perishables were suspended down inside the well with a rope.
