Soccer Game
Handicapped by missing players, Rappahannock’s soccer team was edged out by Red Carpet-Sentry, 3-2, in Fauquier’s junior high league competition at Taylor Junior High in Warrenton last Saturday.
Eight Rappahannock players took the field against a full contingent of 11 plus substitutes representing Red Carpet but despite that disadvantage, Aaron Schumaker scored the only goal in the first half on a penalty shot to put Rappahannock in front, 1-0.
Stymied by aggressive defense by James Dennis, Jim McCullough and Jon McCullough, Red Carpet couldn't manage a score until early in the second half. Then Schumaker came right back with another tally on an assist from Doug McCabe to retake the lead, 2-1.
But the strain of playing undermanned slowed down the Rappahannock contingent and Red Carpet booted two goals in the closing minutes, the last coming with only a minute and half left in the game.
The lost puts the team, sponsored by Natures Foods and Cafe, 3-1 for the season.
