Mountain Time “People in the mountains and elsewhere marked time on the floor and they used a room where the sun came in at a certain time arid they could almost tell to the very dot what time it was.”
Old Churches “More people came to church than do now and one of the real reasons was to visit. It was a great place to visit and hear a good sermon. During the revivals there were all-day dinners on the grounds in the summertime, and there were picnics. Food was brought from homes in ox-carts.
“All churches seemed to be well-filled. In this town this was the Presbyterian church (the library) and it wasn’t open very often. Then we had the Episcopal church, the Baptist church, the Methodist church, and the free church on the edge of town.
“We always had big Christmas entertainment. There were huge trees lit by candles—why we didn’t burn the place up I don’t know, but we always had somebody watch in case a candle fell over. They were just clipped on with a clip and if anyone saw one tip over there was someone to go with a long pole and put it out.
"Everyone got an orange and a bag of candy. After a while we found out that so many people would just go to every church to get something to eat at each so we stopped having Christmas parties at each church and had one big party at one church.
"People in Washington attended all churches. The churches were open morning and night so if you were in a town you went to whichever
