The ill-conceived U. S. Senate campaign of Del. Owen Pickett of Virginia Beach came crashing down last week. Its final collapse was the result of two major factors.
The first was- the unprecedented pressure applied by state Sen. Douglas Wilder of Richmond, who was so infuriated by Del. Pickett's conservatism that he threatened to oppose him as an independent candidate.
