Lilia rd died of a
sudden heart attack at his home in Washington. Lillard, 51, had served as sheriff of Rappahannock County for nine years following his appointment to the position by Judge J.R.H. Alexander to fill the unexpired term of the previous sheriff, Hubert Keyser, who died in April, 1941.
The count in Rappahannock's census 1 stood at 5,913 with ennumerators still working in the last few hollows and back roads. The final tally in 1940 was 7,208.
Mary Helen Bruce, Jean Brown, Dot Cloud and Ann Lynn Atkins from the Sperryville Senior 4-H club and Jacob Sisk, Elizabeth Leake, Jane Nichols and Marie Jenkins of the Belle Meade Club were chosen as delegates to 4-H camp.
The Albert Burke property at Woodville remained unsold at the conclusion of the public auction on May 12. According to reports, the highest bid was $2,000 for the property which was valued at $2.100.
