Traditionally, the large farms along that raod from Flint Hill to the Castleton vicinity have included some of the most undervalued acres in the county and efforts to equalize assessments there have provoked some of the loudest protests, the board members indicated.
Travel Up
Vehicles registered out-ofstate led the way as travel on Virginia’s major highways increased by almost two per cent in March over the same month a year ago, according to the Virginia Department of Highways and Transportation.
1 ravel on the state’s major highways was up 1.8 per cent over March, 1981, with outof-state vehicles showing a 7.4 per cent increase.
Travel by all passenger vehicles on the interstate, primary, and arterial highways showed an increase of 2.4 per cent over the same month of a year ago.
Virginia passenger vehicle travel increased by 2 per cent over March, 1981.
Bus and truck traffic was up 0.5 per cent, compared to March of the preceding year. It was the first time since November, 1981, that commercial traffic had shown an increase.
The statistics for travel were compiled from counts taken at 265 locations on the interstate, primary, and arterial systems, according to A. L. Thomas, Jr., the department’s traffic and safety engineer.
