A check of the records shows that the members of the Board of Equalization did indeed lower assessments on properties they own. But they raised assessments as well and the values they set on their land reflect the general worth attached to similar parcels throughout the county.
In addition, Scoggins, who sat in on the majority of the board’s meetings, reported that the individual board member whose property was under consideration did not participate in either the discussion or the vote on assessment.
The following changes were made tc assessments on property belonging to members of the Equalization Board:
—Thomas V. Williams;' 60.76 acres of pasture-forest raised from $800 to $1,000 an acre; 70 acres of which six are in pasture raised from $400 to $1,200 an acre and 64 acres in pastured lowered from $1,600 to $1,200; 22.78 acres of pasture lowered from $2,000 to $1.000 an acre.
