Rappahannock rescue workers carried home most of the plaques from the Rappahannock-Rapidan EMS Council’s annual banquet Tuesday evening at Graves Mt. Lodge.
Three of the four awards went to local emergency medical services volunteers. The Sperryville rescue squad members received the call of the year award for their response to an elderly couple pinned in a car following an accident on May 15. Julian Brown accepted the award on their behalf. He also took home his own plaque for being named outstanding instructor of the year.
Sherry Hamill of Flint Hill was chosen as outstanding rescue squadsman of the year. She started years ago as an emergency medical technician (EMT). She is now a cardiac EMT as well as a certified instructor and goes on 90 percent of Flint Hill’s rescue calls.
