A bumper crop of apples was predicted
for Rappahannock County as August’s first issue went to press. Apple broker L.J. Kilby of Sperryville said the crop was of the best qualify and flavor ever; farmer E.M. Richards posed for the Rappahannock News in his orchard before boughs heavily laden with clusters of fine fruit. Good weather was credited for the news.
The Flint Hill Firemen’s Carnival was well underway and eight beauties were wondering which of them would be crowned queen at the upcoming Amissville carnival. In the running were Lou Ann Phillips, Peggy Hitt, Becky Cooper, Nancy Corder, Peggy Cook, Mabel Glascock, Diane Sisk and Susan O’Halloran.
Local country music buffs were tuning up to go to a “hootananny” and contest in Fauquier County that was to be attended by “Skeeter” Davis as well as Eddie Matherly and Clyde Moody.
