Piper said that when children were sent home with letters, parents realized school officials meant business. None of the children will be counted in attendance until they return with medical certificates, she added.
While there were 635 pupils on the rolls last week, there were actually only 594 in attendance on the first day, according to Piper. But Piper said she isn’t sure of the final count due to the immunization confusion. Last year’s final count at the elementary school was 520 on opening day.
