Treaty’s Significance

The American Revolution ended in 1781 with the siege of Yorktown but the new nation was not on its own until peace negotiations were concluded. On September 3, 1783, treaties were signed by Great Britain, the United States, France and Spain and on January 14, 1784, Congress ratified the treaty between the U.S. and Great Britain, formally ending the war.
