That brings Rappahannock’s total to 2,886. The registrar would like to see the figure at 3,000, less than the goal set by Robb but a goal that she hopes can be reached in apparently apathetic Rappahannock.
To attain that goal, she has scheduled a series of special registration days at sites scattered around the county. Anyone from any area of Rappahannock can come to any location on any day. Registration takes just a few minutes. All that’s needed is a Social Security number.
Mrs. Kilby will be at the Rappahannock National Bank in Washington on September 9, at the Castleton fire hall on September 16, at Farmers and Merchants Bank in Flint Hill on September 23 and at the Rappahannock County Library in Washington on September 26. Every Tuesday and Thursday, she’s in her office from 9 to 5.
Surely, there’s not a resident of Rappahannock who can’t reach one of those sites on one of those days. Registering to vote and gaining the knowledge necessary to make an intelligent choice between candidates are the two components of our participatory democracy. For the November 8 elections in Rappahannock, both are easy.
