John S. Browning

Retired Flint Hill Banker

John Smith Browning, 82, of Flint Hill, died Saturday, August 27, 1983, at his residence.

Graveside services were conducted on Tuesday at the Prospect Hill Cemetery in Front Royal by the Rev. Merlin Shorb.

Mr. Browning was born February 16, 1901, son of the late Dr. Edgar R. and Lucy Turner Browning. He was a member of the Front Royal Presbyterian Church and was treasurer of the Flint Hill Fire Company for a number of years.

Mr. Browning had retired in 1971 after 48 years with the Flint Hill branch of the Farmers and Merchants National Bank and, at the time, was the branch’s vice president. He was a past member of the Rappahannock County School Electoral Board and was a member of the Washington Masonic Lodge 78 AF & AM,

Surviving with his wife, Georgia Kay Browning, are two sons, John B. Browning and Edgar K. Browning, both of Charlottesville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Flint Hill Fire Company.

Arrangements were handled by the Turner-Robertshaw Funeral Home in Front Royal.
