learning how to write plays and studying juvenile fiction from a Mississippi writer. He’s the author of “The Redneck Poacher’s Son” by Luke Wallin, a book that made the American Library Association’s best books list in 1981. When he wrote it, he thought it was going to be an adult novel, but the publishers said otherwise and now he’s halfway through his fourth children’s book.
Aunt Michele wrote a play at the writers’ conference called “The Thief Who Hoed the Row.” It’s about potatoes.
Wayne and Lewis Fisher learned how to paint pictures of potatoes when they went to the last class at Spectra last weekend. Donna says they also learned a few jokes, but the best part was learning how to get along with all kinds of people. Friday night they each had to volunteer for a favorite chore. Rut then they had to swap jobs with somebody else and ended up doing something that wasn’t such fun.
Then they were bused up a hill, sat down on the hay, and told to draw. The stuff they turned out was pretty good and they made some friends, too.
