While Aunt Michele was away at the Cape, Cat celebrated with numerous dinner parties, but he steadfastly refused to reveal the identities of his guests. We only know that vast quantities of Savory Stew, Western Menu, and Crave were consumed.
Others were not so reluctant to discuss local festivities. Judy Hitt says all of Castleton was invited to a party at the fire house on Friday night. There were games, a covered dish dinner, and a stereo to dance by. Called for “the young and young at heart”, the party was “keyed toward the younger set” (say, between 35-40). Still, 17‘A month old Brandy Knighting was not only the youngest attending, but also the best dancer.
Judy says she’d like to continue the parties on a monthly basis (maybe not quite so often in the winter). She says it turned out really good for a first try. Approximately 30 attended. Among them: Mr. and Mrs. Donald Fridenstine, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Fisher, John Wayne Settle, Shirley Frye Hitt...
This horseshoe competition has gotten to be a real “grudge” for Mitch Hitt. Grandma Shirley and Judy were on the team that beat him this time. To hear from one of the witnesses, it was pretty exciting. Donna Fisher says, “I never heard any details. I just saw a lot of jumping up and down. Judy was screaming, she’s a scream, that Judy.”
That was when Judy’s ringers put the team over the top. When the score was 15-17, Judy says Mitch and Gene Fisher were ready to take on all comers.
Mitch was crowing, “We’ll play you all!”
“Don’t count your chickens before they’re hatched,” Judy retorted.
Soon the score was 21-16 the grandmothers the victors.
But Judy says Mitch won’t let it be. She supposes this tournament may continue in snowdrifts with the players wearing coats all winter.
Approximately 30 attended a gathering of a different sort Sunday night. Nancy Schoppet, Mr. and Mrs. Dave Konick, and Mr. and Mrs. Sid Gottlieb were the Castleton residents at a concerned citizens meeting at Barney O’Meara’s house
