Williamsburg design. To accomplish this ambition, the Whites traveled and studied extensively before starting collaboration with an architect. The end result is a new dwelling that reflects the good taste, pride and patience of the designers and builders of the early 1700s.
The house also illustrates the country influence as contrasted with the more formal design of in-town living. Among the interior features ire hall lights custom-made to be replicas of the candle lantern Paul Revere used to signal from the Boston Church tower that the British were coming.
“The Red School House,” also east of Flint Hill, is the home of former New Jersey banker, Mr. and Mrs. Frank S. Gannon. Everyone who has ever wanted to redesign and live in a little old school house should see this clever and attractive adaptation of a one-room building to modern living. The original school room is now the Gannon’s large family room, complete with 12-foot ceilings and eight-foot windows. The walls are of the original wood panelling.
A tiny guest room on an upper level has been taken over by grandchildren as their own, chosen because it can be entered via a rope ladder from the family room.
Tea will be served each afternoon of the tour at Fairlea, the home of Judge and Mrs. Raynor Snead in Washington.
Headquarters for the flower sale and tour will be the Trinity Church parish
