The annual Rappahannock County House Tour and Dried Flower Sale on October 15 and 16 features three homes that demonstrate how the old can be modified to meet today’s living requirements while still contributing to the beauty that marks Virginia’s Piedmont region.
“The Meadows" is the home of Willis Snell, Esquire, an attorney in the nation’s Capitol. Located on the western edge of Washington, this big early American house had its beginnings in the time when young George Washington surveyed the town. The house is replete with legends of ghosts, spirits that had to be eliminated by shots with silver bullets. Its attic walls carry graffitti written by wounded Civil War soldiers.
Today the house is a showcase for an extensive collection of momentos from the owner’s travels throughout the world.
