EMS Council coordinator Gary Rosson says the new dollar fee added to automobile licenses has given “a little more solid base to maintain the system of development” of the five county area in this planning district with its 16 volunteer rescue squads.
The one dollar added to each passenger vehicle registration by the state is used to supplement local contributions. The money collected from this new' source must go towards EMS equipment, training and supplies. Rosson is quick to add that volunteer rescue squads still depend on donations — the state funding “just keeps them viable. But they have no real breathing room.” Still, he says the new system makes it easier to budget and plan.
