To the editor:
We awake every morning on the south side of Big Battle Mountain to a lazy sun creeping up behind the trees accompanied by a few birds singing. It’s a peacefulness we’ve grown to love. Lately, we've begun to wonder what it will be like to be rudely roused each day by gunshots piercing the still morning air. And as we leave the semi-safety of our homes and walk out onto our properties, we wonder if we’ll be alive to return again.

The proposed opening of a gun range along Route 640 threatens all of us who live in Rappahannock County and sets a dangerous precedent for others. It is a direct and offensive intrusion into a quiet agricultural community, an intrusion that is perilously close to criminal.
