Another 22 percent of the money goes into the state’s rescue squad assistance fund for distribution twice a year as direct grants to various EMS agencies with recommendations from the regional councils. The assistance fund has been the real help to rural areas, Rosson says, since the other allocations tend to favor urban areas where more cars are registered.
