1930 - The great drought which hit this whole country affected Rappahannock, so severe that it changed the landscape completely in that terrible summer when no rain fell.
1942 - A severe flood, on the Hughes, Covington, Rush and Thornton Rivers. It swept away the mill dam at Slate Mills. Reports are that it was so swift that it swept everything before it: fences, trees, buildings and livestock.
1979 - Deep snow, rain and cold. School closed for two weeks, electricity cut off.
1979 - Extensive flooding in the Sperryville area, causing the death of Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Wood as they struggled to get to their home at Fletcher’s Mill.
1979 - In October, snow fell on trees still in leaf, causing damage to trees, shrubs and electrical lines all over the county.
