The November 17 letter from Diane Kidwell commenting on what she viewed as errors by various readers and newspapers is itself so full of errors and self-serving that it requires a response.

Regarding the right of way: Kidwell wrote: “I did park my truck across the right of wav...This right of way is a roadway which is our privately owned property. Other property owners are granted in their deeds a ‘right to use’ this roadway in order to cross our property, which fronts on Route 729.”

Now, let’s state the facts. Kidwell parked her truck across not the right of way but the narrow’ portion of the fifty-foot right of way that has been improved into a roadbed. All rights of way and even state roads are “privately owned” by and taxed to the landowners having road frontage on them. (Kidwell also “privately owns a 736-foot section to the middle of state Route 729. If she owned land across the road, she would “privately own” all that section of Route 729.) Finally, all, not just “other” property owners are granted the right to use this right of way in common.
