In a pre-Thanksgiving Board of Zoning Appeals meeting, applicants were grateful that no requests were refused. The only exception at the November 22 meeting was postponement of part of an application from Arthur J. Smith.
Smith had applied for a special use permit to place two permanent signs in Sperryville. The board voted to allow one sign for the Sperryville Indoor Antique Market to be placed on Clifford J. Miller’s property on Route 211. The sign is to be supported by a post in the ground and may not exceed 20 square feet. The BZA slso conditioned approval on Smith’s getting approval from the highway department and a written lease from Miller to use the land.
Smith’s second request, to place a sign for White House Antiques on a Main Street lot next door to the Corner Store, was postponed until the December meeting. There are already several signs on the same property and BZA members wanted to consider them all at the same time. Zoning administrator David Konick noted that the ordinance limits signs on each property to a total of 20 square feet. Konick added that the new zoning ordinance currently under review will address the question more specifically.
