Hazardous materials encompass thousands of products we use daily, including highly inflammable petroleum products, bottled gasses, toxic household and industrial chemicals, pesticides, fungicides and fertilizers. Though we have few major road supply routes within the county, with over 1«0 million transportations of hazardous material each year in the United States, a potential exists for accidents on our roads. A recent occurrence in Virginia is a good example of what could happen here.

In Halifax County, a fire department responded to what was believed to be a routine automobile accident with only minor personal injuries.
