We are now serviced by fire and rescue apparatus consisting of ten pumpers, three tankers, three brush trucks, seven ambulances and one medic unit stationed at Flint Hill. The medic unit is an advanced life-support vehicle equipped to provide care for cardiac and other life threatening problems. Chief Poling announced that the Amissville Rescue Squad will be putting its own brand-new medic unit into operation in December of this year.
According to Frank E. Huff, chief, Flint Hill Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company and training officer for the county’s Fire and Rescue Association, “in addition to the many standard courses normally taken by fire and rescue personnel, volunteers are encouraged to attend disaster training classes and seminars.” Emergency service volunteers have recently completed disaster courses in mass casualty incidents, hazardous material incidents, radiological monitoring and initial damage assessment. Sessions have been held throughout Virginia and at FEMA’s National Emergency Training Academy at Emmitsburg, Maryland.
