Twenty people who live or own homes in the Virginia Piedmont are mentioned in Forbes magazine’s annual fall edition about the 400 richest people in America.
Each member of The Forbes Four Hundred has a fortune of $125 million or more. Editors of the magazine admit the list, based on interviews, financial disclosure statements and documents. “will always be something imprecise." But the magazine spent more than $250,000 on the story this year, attempting to make it as accurate as possible, the editors say.
Some of the local people mentioned are clearly among the nation’s 400 richest. Others are mentioned in the story as heirs to fortunes.
