of Washington, D.C. met at the Chesapeake Bay Conference on December 7-9 in Fairfax, Virginia. This will be the first opportunity these leaders have had to meet together since the release of the final reports of EPA’s Bay study and this meeting could well plot the course of the new Bay Program for the near future.
While the burden of implementation falls on the states, the federal government will continue to do its part. EPA’s fiscal year 1984 budget includes $4.25 million for Bay-related activities.
EPA’s Bay study is clearly more than just another agency effort. It is a joint attempt by almost every segment of society living or working near the Bay. Those of us who have worked on the program have developed a new spirit of cooperation and awareness which has brought us to the point of believing that we can manage the Bay for the benefit of all. We invite all interested and concerned citizens to join us in this effort.
