County Treasurer Frances Foster says collections of personal property taxes are “not bad.” In fact, Foster reported Tuesday that only nine percent of fhe what is owed remains unpaid.
Rappahannock sent out 7,522 tax bills, Foster reported, totaling $1,065,165.39. The bills were due by December 5 to avoid a penalty charge.
Foster expects to collect the majority of the outstanding amounts. She said some taxpayers allow their personal property taxes to remain unpaid until April when they get their new county stickers.
County tags go on sale March 1, according to Foster. All previous taxes, penalties and interest must be paid before they may be obtained.
