The trees stay in front of The Inn at Little Washington; and the town’s zoning ordinance gets some new amendments. That’s the upshot of the continuing controversy between the Washington Town Council and The Inn’s owners.
At their regular meeting last Wednesday (January 11), town council members unanimously voted to modify the conditions they had previously placed on The Inn’s variance. The building project involves adding overnight accommodations and expanding the kitchen.
Council had been concerned about adequate parking. The Inn countered that it has sufficient parking through its lease agreement to share the parking lot at Trinity Episcopal Church.
One condition had been removal of the trees at either end of The Inn’s parking lot before building could continue. Also, the portion of the front fence which protrudes beyond the building line was to be dismantled. The Inn had obtained a building permit by revising plans to eliminate the work at the back of the building, thus circumventing the need
