When an Alexandria man appeared in General District Court on January 17 charged with failure to tag a deer at the place of kill, he argued that he hadn’t moved the deer yet and so hadn't broken the law. Jose M. Cedeno was hunting in Ben Venue on December 9 when state police ticketed him because he hadn’t “immediately tagged at the place of kill."
District Court Judge John Alexander decided that the “immediate” outweighed the “place” and found Cedeno guilty as charged. However, he suspended the usual $50 fine because of Cedeno’s “sincere treatment” which led him to believe that the hunter had simply misinterpreted the law. Cedeno was ordered to pay $20 court costs.
