The colleges offer additional lesser known services to the general public. Locally Lord Fairfax has continuing career studies, for example, in response to short-term adult educational needs. Program options ranging from advanced photography to winery management offer a “minicurriculum” in a variety of job skills, consumer education, sports and hobbies.
Extended learning at Lord Fairfax helps\ students earn college credit outside the traditional classroom.
The Learning Resources Center is open to the public without charge 68 hours a week. The library collection includes more than 30,000 books and subscriptions to some 300 magazines and newspapers. Audio-visual services offers a large variety of equipment including television cameras and recorders. The operation gives faculty support for producing their own teaching materials.
The Learning Lab, open to students and the public, has facilities for self-instruction in a wide variety of subjects. Here students may view filmstrips, slides, films and television tapes from the library’s collection. The lab also offers a tutorial referral service.
