Five tracts of land in Rappahannock County totaling 876 acres belong to foreign owners, according to Virginia Department of Agriculture spokesman Graham Copeland. The various owners are located in Switzerland, Bermuda, Italy, England and West Germany, Copeland said.

He was offering the local statistics from a department computer programmed to keep track of foreign ownership. A 1979 state law requires U.S. entities with foreign interests to report their acquisitions.
