Rappahannock is a step closer towards a better high school building.
The Rappahannock School Board Tuesday chose the architectural firm Baughan & Baukhages of Luray for a preliminary study for the high school renovation. The same company drew up plans for the new bus shop/administration building as well as specifications for the re-roofing currently under way at the elementary school.
In selecting Baughan & Baukhages, the School Board members called the company “a known quantity.” Said Randall Updike, “They’re close. They understand the area.” With a motion from Paul Nichols, the choice was unanimous.
Chairman Beverly Massie expressed what the board wanted in an architect. “They need to know rural districts with their special concerns,” she said. The board was open to suggestions on design, she said, but didn’t want a company likely to push current vogues or extremes in school
