Luke Likes Program
The county’s new Commonwealth’s Attorney Peter Luke says there are two main benefits to alternative sentencing. The program offers offenders a second chance while inflicting a punishment. It also relieves the taxpayers of the cost of more customary punishment. “The expense of each day in jail is phenomenal,” he said, adding that he wouldn’t rate one benefit above the other.
Luke agreed that offenders must be judged “case by case. For some it’s appropriate, for some not.” He said he would recommend community service more often
