Mills b. Godwin, Jr. former two-term Virginia governor, was named “Outstanding Virginian for 1984” on May 12. Godwin received the honor during an outdoor ceremony at the Northern Virginia 4-H Educational Center in Harmony Hollow, near Front Royal. The award was given by Virginia Governor Charles S. Robb, who was honorary -chairman of the event. D. French Slaughter, Jr. of Culpeper served as chairman.
Godwin became the second Virginian to earn the honor, the purpose of which is threefold:
