Lottie Aylor of Speryville used to walk to church with her family during the years when everybody walked. Sometimes, for a revival, the three-mile trek was made after dark. Still, the Aylor’s six children, four boys and two girls, would make the journey that their parents believed was one of life’s most important ones— to participate in worship.
Last Saturday, in celebration of Mothers Day, the Aylor children united at the Hopewell Baptist Church of Sperryville to honor their mother, Lottie, and reconfirm their commitment to faith. It was the first time in some 15 years that the Aylor family united at church to sing and worship together again.
“Special” Service
Lottie had arranged a special service at the Hopewell Baptist Church. She welcomed members of her own church and members of the Promised Land Baptist Church to participate. Nearly 50 people attended ; the special service, which centered arounc^thr ««gipg and recitations of the Aylor ’ children and grandchildren, Bessie Grigsby of Promised Lane emceed the service; Reverend John Pendleton, also of Promised Land, gave the benediction.
Women First
The Aylor women sang first, opening the service with “Amazing Grace.” The men followed with “Swing Low Sweet Chariot,” and “Kum BaYa.”
