The issue, raised by Jimmy DeBergh of Harris Hollow, is that Snead might be able to go ahead with a septic system for the proposed facility after approval by the state Water Control Board — whether residents of Harris Hollow and Washington approve or not.
DeBergh presented to the Town Council documentation of subterranian water contamination elsewhere, where Assures in limestone allowed seepage into nearby wells. DeBergh argued that even though Harris Hollow had no limestone, the situation could be similar due to a series of faults that begin in Rush River at Devil’s Stairs.
“The gentleman from the State Water Control Board said (at the April 26 meeting) there would be another public hearing,” Miller reminded DeBergh. "That’s true, but the decision still lies in the hands of the State Water Control Board,” DeBergh said.
