The Town Council may be getting more out of the bargain than they bargained for during their meeting of May 10. On that evening, the Council approved two requests to establish bed and breakfast guest homes in Washington. We believe both were good moves on the part of Council for several reasons.

First, citizens can expect less—not more— intensive use of the two properties. In the case of the Gay Street Extended property, neighbors should be relieved—they’re one step closer to a single-family dwelling. Citizens and Council also made it clear that any moves toward more intensive use of the properties, or other commercial ventures in the areas of the two properties, would provide the applicant with an uphill battle.
