At the post office, Aileen Johnson handed out tootsie roll pops and peanuts after explaining how mail is sorted, classified, weighed and delivered to boxes and rural routes. The kids all had their hands stamped and dated May 14, just like they were pieces of mail.
At the Corner Store, owner Randolph Clater talked about stocking and ordering procedures. Sperryville youngsters who have long wondered what lay behind the rear door that’s always closed had their questions answered on Monday. “The highlight was seeing that stockroom,” Monica Towman reported. “They just had to see what was behind that door!” v
After the tour, Clater passed out free ice cream for the children and their chaperones and then treated the bus drivers to lunch.
