Nine area students recently completed an EMS office sponsored Cardiac Technicians course which began in September. Completing the course were Jackie Estes of the Washington Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad, Melinda Clark of the Orange ,County Volunteer Rescue Squad, Donald Mason of the Remington Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad, Judy Almquist of the Marshall Volunteer Rescue Squad, and Janet Hope, Tim Sjurseth, David Wolfford, Kevin McNamara and Richard Lee all from the Culpeper County Volunteer Rescue Squad.
The course is designed to train prehospital .providers with the skills to assist victims of heart attacks by using advanced life support techniques. Students were required to complete more than 80 hours of classrooiq.training and 57 hours of practical emergency room and intensive care training.
Four of the graduating participants will join the ranks of advanced life support personnel in Rappahannock Rapidan EMS District and the five Culpeper graduates will make up the nucleus of a new ALS system for Culpeper County.
